#TopOfTheFolklore. The "Maria Tănase" festival starts on September 6 in Craiova
The „master bird” of Romanian music, Maria Tănase, has a dedicated festival in Craiova, which brings together moments of those who aspire to become big names on the Romanian folklore scene. And this since 1969, six years after the disturbing disappearance of her great voice.
September is fast approaching, and at the beginning of the month we will have a folklore marathon, at the 26th edition of the National Festival-Competition of Performers of the Romanian Folk Song "Maria Tănase".
Organized by the Dolj County Center for Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture, with the support of the Dolj County Council, the festival-contest will take place between September 6-10 and will be hosted by the National Theater "Marin Sorescu".
The people of Craiova will not only have the chance to listen to the competitors registered on September 8 and 9, from 19:00, on the stage of the Craiova National Theatre, but also live on Facebook, on the radio or on TVR Craiova. At the same time, the laureates' gala will take place on September 10. All this, in the accompaniment of the "Lăutarii" orchestras from Chisinau and the "Maria Tănase" Folk Ensemble from Craiova.
Tickets can be purchased from the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater Agency, as follows:
- 30 lei / evening (September 8-9)
- 20 lei (up to 40 places per evening) / pupils, students, pensioners (September 8-9)
- 40 lei / Laureates Gala (September 10)
Until the beginning of the shows in the evenings, however, you can also enjoy, if we keep talking about Maria Tănase, the work of the specialists from the Oltenia Museum - Ethnography Section, reunited in the collection dedicated to the artist. It gathers a multitude of personal objects, documents and photographs that complete her story, a unique one in the landscape of Romanian artists.
