The „Youth Stadium” Complex expands with European funding! Craiova, to host Romania’s only indoor velodrome and an arena with an internationally certified athletics track
The "Youth Stadium" Multifunctional Complex- a facility unlike any other in Romania, initially funded by the county budget - continues to grow following the signing of a European funding agreement last week. This project is set to further elevate both the city and the county within the realm of high-performance sports.
This ambitious project is unique in that it includes the development of Romania’s only indoor velodrome, as well as the only indoor arena capable of housing internationally certified athletics track with six running lanes.
In addition to these key features, the new complex will include modular zones that can be configured for various indoor sports, ranging from individual disciplines like tennis, fencing, gymnastics, judo, and karate, to team sports. Furthermore, the facility incorporates a recovery center; the semi-basement level houses therapy pools, massage areas, and saunas. These amenities will be accessible not only to athletes but to anyone in need of such treatments, including individuals within the social welfare system. Designed to be inclusive, the "Youth Stadium" Complex is intended to host a wide range of socio-educational and cultural activities - the arena itself has been specifically engineered to provide the acoustics required for hosting concerts.
"We envisioned a complex that would offer broad access to children and young people, with an activity plan focused on hosting school competitions and promoting grassroots sports. We retained the name that links this new arena to the area’s rich history - the very stadium where Craiova’s football team has played since its inception. We undertook this project with the conviction that we have a duty to honour this legacy, preserve the area’s purpose, and lay the groundwork for future achievements - an approach that has also been recognized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports", explained Cosmin Vasile, President of the Dolj County Council.
In a city defined by sports and the fans' passion for local teams—whether in football or indoor sports—the " Youth Stadium" Complex rounds out a series of investments made in this sector. From the first child to step into the new complex, to the oldest visitor who remembers what once stood here, we are delighted to witness these changes - changes that cherish the past while preparing the future.
