NN Popp Mansion

The history of this mansion begins in 1907 when architect Ion D. Berindey designed the Padea Mansion in French eclectic style as a family home of NN Popp, a farmer who was gold medallist at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900.

Ion D. Berindey (1871-1928) is one of the most prolific and appreciated Romanian architects in the first three decades of the 20th century. He followed his work to the last detail, left nothing to chance, imagination and talent, the concern for detail, the details. His most famous and appreciated work is Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino Palace located on Calea Victoriei, no. 141 in Bucharest, that was designed between 1898-1903.

From 1932, the name of the Mansion from Padea is also related to that of the Romanian interwar writer Alexandru Kiriţescu (1888-1961). He settled the action of the play "Gaitele", his most important piece of writing, in the mansion. The play is a great comedy of morals, highlighting the fierce face of the provincial world.

The mansion had a bad period during communism, but from 2013 it regained its former brilliance after the completion of the restoration work carried out by the Popeci family, keeping the style imposed by the Arch. Berindey.
