#21stOfMarch. Oltenia Day, full of cultural events in Craiova
Oltenia Day, designated as such by law in 2017 and celebrated on March 21st, marks the entry of the revolutionary Tudor Vladimirescu from Oltenia into Bucharest, in 1821. On the occasion of this extremely important date for us, Oltenia, Dolj and Craiova residents, the cultural institutions in Craiova propose a program of special events, which brings perhaps unknown information, new exhibitions, but also interactive activities.
Thus, on March 21, we will all be able to enjoy the following events:
- "Constantin Brâncusi" Center - 17:00 - 22:00 - "Craiova de altădată" Exhibition
The event, organized by the History-Archaeology Section of the Oltenia Museum Craiova, includes images that capture the atmosphere of the city in the Belle Epoque, but also in the first half of the 20th century. Among the old buildings or areas that you can admire in this exhibition are the Palace of Justice, New Square, Calea Unirii, The Bank of Commerce or "Romanescu" Park.
- "Constantin Brâncusi" Center - "Bibesco Park Album" Exhibition
"Alexandru si Aristia Aman" County Library proposes an exhibition that illustrates, 120 years after its inauguration, the stages of construction of the most beautiful park in Craiova, the "Romanescu" Park, a gem designed in a romantic style by the great French architect Edouard Redont. Visitors will be able to admire 46 panels with images from the construction of this monumental park, whose project was awarded the Gold Medal at the Paris International Exhibition (1900).
- "Constantin Brâncusi" Center - "Seven States" Exhibition
Completing the events held at the "Brâncusi" Center on March 21, ARTA Gallery - Union of Visual Artists from Romania - Craiova Branch brings to our attention an exhibition that gathers, under the name "Seven States", the works of ten artists. The event focuses on contemporary art, under its various disguises: painting, sculpture, object and photography. It can be visited until March 26.
- "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" County Library Headquarters - 10:00 - 14:00 - Treasure Hunt: Oltenia
The "Aman" Library team proposes an interactive "Oltenia"-themed treasure hunt contest, through which participants will discover interesting and less-known information about the oltenians and Oltenia, while taking a tour of the "Aman" Library. The rules of the game will be handed to each participant at the start of the game, so if you're feeling like a little detective, you shouldn't miss this event!
- "Buzești Brothers" Square - 18:30 - 22:00 - "N-auzirăți de-un oltean" - Traditional show
Craiova City Hall, through the „Maria Tănase” Folk Ensemble, in partnership with Dolj County Council, invites us to this show where folklore will be remembered and celebrated through the most beloved voices of Oltenia. Along with them, will also perform members of the Pandurii Vladimirescului Group from Mehedinți, "Lăutarii Mehedințiului" Orchestra and the Ballet Corps of the "Maria Tănase" Folk Ensemble.
The Oltenia celebration day always last more than one day, because it is in our nature, and on this occasion, in a month dedicated to women, the Art Museum offers us a special exhibition in the Hall of Mirrors, on March 23, starting at 4:00 p.m. It is about "Ladies from Craiova - Patterns of femininity in the 19th century", organized by the Craiova Art Museum in partnership with the County Service of the National Archives Dolj. Therefore, the special women of Craiova, who influenced art, education and the community in general, will be remembered through paintings, photographs and vintage documents. The exhibition will be open to the public until April 24.
Don't forget that you can always discover our history by participating at the guided tours organized by the friend of the whole community, Dragos Andreescu – Monumentalist. You just have to keep an eye on their dedicated Facebook group, as places are limited and sell out quickly!
