#After30Years "Shakespeare" Festival, impressive edition in 2024
The "Shakespeare" International Festival in Craiova, which this year celebrates 30 years since its launch in 1994, returns to the spectators with a more generous edition than ever before!
It will all take place from 16-26 May, when audiences will have the opportunity to watch 30 performances directed by Robert Wilson, Peter Brook, Declan Donnellan, Robert Lepage and other world-renowned directors, which will be staged in seven performance halls from Craiova, while in more than 30 conventional and non-conventional spaces, on the streets of neighborhoods, squares and parks, you will feel the Shakespearean spirit.
This year's edition also means over 300 events - performances, concerts, exhibitions, parades, communication sessions, conferences, book launches, student theatre workshops - will take place on a journey through space and time, from the year 1600, through Shakespeare Village, to the future through Shakespeare Dimensions: a foray into virtual reality in an artificial intelligence-based multimedia cube, supported by NEPI Rockcastle and hosted by Promenada Mall.
The tickets for the performances at „Amza Pellea” Hall, along with those that will be played at „I.D. Sârbu” Hall, the Students’ House of Culture, the Colibri Children's and Youth Theater, Ramada Hall, Tipografia and the Oltenia Philharmonic were put up for sale. The 14th edition of the "Shakespeare" International Festival is organized, as every year, by the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater from Craiova and the Shakespeare Foundation. In the year, in which the International "Shakespeare" Festival celebrates 30 years of existence, the traditional organizers are joined by a new partner - the National University of Theater and Cinematography "I.L. Caragiale", Bucharest.
Thus, the festival will have, in addition to the creative dimension, an educational one. In 2024, for the first time since the establishment of the "Shakespeare" International Festival, UNATC is organizing a section dedicated exclusively to future theater artists and filmmakers: "UNATC Fringe Festival - Shakespeare unleashes students". For 11 days, in 22 alternative spaces, dispersed throughout the city, UNATC students will bring to life the creations of William Shakespeare and will recompose the universe of the great playwright in the middle of the community.
