„Theatre bridges”, in Craiova, between April 20 and 23

We are easily getting out of the Easter mini-vacation with the help of the "Marin Sorescu" National Theatre in Craiova, which starts, tomorrow, a special event for the national and world dramaturgical culture. We’re talking about "Theatre Bridges", an event designed to create cultural bridges and, at the same time, to mark the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the current theatre building, but also the 400th anniversary of the appearance of the First Folio 1623 edition of the Complete Works of William Shakespeare.

Everything will take place under the auspices of the "Shakespeare" International Festival, whose next edition - 2024 - is knocking on the door and which we can't wait for!

Until then, "Theatre Bridges" means more than 30 events, both indoor and outdoor plays, book launches, laser mapping and science communication sessions with extraordinary guests.

What plays will be performed at the "Marin Sorescu" National Theatre in the coming days? The performances "Macbeth", directed by Henry Maynard (Flabbergast Theatre - London), "Richard III", by László Bocsárdi (production of the National Theatre "Marin Sorescu" - Craiova), "Hamlet", directed by Ada Lupu Hausvater (National Theatre "Mihai Eminescu" - Timișoara), "Coriolanus", directed by Dmytro Bogomazov (National Theatre "Ivan Franko" - Kiev), but also a show from the Flute Theatre in Stradford upon Avon, "The Tempest", premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company, dedicated to children with autism. It should be noted that the animator of this type of theatre, the actress Kelly Hunter, recently received the high distinction of Member of the Order of the British Empire for the production of these shows intended for autism sufferers.

Tickets are on sale at the ticket agency of the "Marin Sorescu" Theatre, but also online, at

Urban theatrical events will take place in the "William Shakespeare" Square (the esplanade of the National Theatre), the "Buzești Brothers" Square, the "Mihai Viteazul" Square or in the "Nicolae Romanescu" Park, where the Easter Fair is in progress, so the whole city will be surrounded by the wonderful world of Shakespeare and the magic of the theatre.

The scientific communications that will take place in the framework of "Theatre Bridges" will bring to the memory of the participants outstanding personalities of the theatre, such as George Banu or Liviu Ciulei, focusing, at the same time, on the importance of the Craiova culture and Romanian culture in the development of this extremely valuable universal heritage.

"Theatre Bridges" is yet another proof that the cultural movement in Craiova is ever more extensive and reminds - to those who don't already know - that, here in Dolj, we breathe and live for culture!

See you at the theatre!
