The rehabilitation of the "Elena Farago" Memorial House has begun! Dozens of other libraries in Dolj, equipped and renovated
The "Elena Farago" Memorial House in Craiova, located in the vicinity of the "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" County Library, entered into a process of renovation and redevelopment of the spaces, in order to acquire a new identity, but also a greater openness to the general public.
The furniture that belonged to the poet will be restored, and the building will also be equipped with new furniture and technology that will make the new museum a digital hub. In addition to the house that belonged to the poet, two other buildings of the "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" County Library will be included in the hub space and will benefit from works and equipment through this project.
Also, the courtyard will be modernized and will be furnished with urban furniture and green areas, for as much interactivity and contact with the public as possible. The house will also be included in the tourist and historical circuit of the county, along with other objectives such as Cula Cernăteștilor, Cula Izvoranu-Geblescu, Memorial House "Amza Pellea" (these being open to the general public for some time) or the future Memorial House "Alexandru Macedonski".
Through a project accessed by the Dolj County Council, financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, in addition to the poet's house, three other libraries in our county will be rehabilitated and another 30 libraries will be equipped with modern equipment. It is another step that the county authority takes to support culture and to create the context conducive to knowledge, in all areas of the county, for easier access to the development of communities.
About the "Elena Farago" Memorial House
The poet Elena Farago lived in this building from her appointment as director of the "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" Foundation on September 1, 1921, until her death in January 1954. Due to the nature of the events organized or hosted, the current memorial house had in the past the allure of a true cultural salon, a meeting place intended for men of letters.
The "Elena Farago" Memorial House hosts a permanent exhibition that includes 396 exhibits: pieces of furniture, personal items, books and magazines, but also hundreds of original documents, photocopies, family photos and correspondence. It is visited annually by thousands of children and young people, as well as by people interested in Elena Farago's work and activity.
