Craiova dances to Jazz rhythms at the end of the week!

The eighth edition of the Craiova Jazz Festival, organized by the "Oltenia" Philharmonic and financed by the City Hall of Craiova, takes place between September 5-9, offering music lovers four consecutive evenings with jazz rhythms and stories told through music!

The concerts will take place in the "Nicolae Romanescu" Park, at the Oltenia Philharmonic, but also at the Art Museum, and tickets for the recitals can be found here:

The first evening, September 5, is about an enchanting setting that opens its doors for Cico - Horia Dinu Nicolaescu, who returns home again, together with his Bavarian band, to share with us, through music, his captivating story. The tickets for this performance are already sold out, but the other three evenings continue the story of jazz in Craiova!

Thus, on September 6, Craiova Jazz Festival 2024 will bring on the stage of the Oltenia Philharmonic Marius Vernescu, one of the greatest pianists of the time and the only Romanian jazzman in history, awarded in 2002 with the Grand Prize at the Montreux Festival, handed by the famous American musician Quincy Jones. Also, the second recital on the second evening will be performed by Petrică Andrei (Quartet), the third one bearing the auditory signature of Triosence, who have developed an unmistakable style, called "songjazz", defined through the power and clarity of the songs.

Pianist Mischa Blanos will spectacularly open the third evening of the Craiova Jazz Festival, with a unique combination of classical and electronic music. In the magic of the evening with number three, the Andrew McCormack Trio comes to Craiova, on European lands after a period of "immersion" in the musical world in New York. Also on the third night, we will applaud our Serbian neighbors from Eyot, a quartet that breaks the barriers of Balkan jazz, mixing it with classical music, art-rock and traditional music.

At the end of the festival, the last night means Storytellers Acoustic Trio/ Marcian Petrescu, which boils down to a program that contains a special selection of archaic and classic blues pieces from the 1900-1940 range, gospel pieces and negro spirituals, as well as some pieces that they counted in history as important landmarks of the fusion between folk, blues and country. Last but not least, we will also listen to THQ, a jazz band formed by five students at the National University of Music in Bucharest. The project was born in 2023 and consists of Denisa Troncea - vocals, Sebastian Mihai - vocals, George Vizitiu - piano and keys, Luca Ioachimescu - bass guitar and Alexandru Terbea - percussion.

Craiova is magical! Come and listen to it!
