#VisitTheMuseum (2) - Craiova Art Museum, a gem of art and architecture

In addition to the works of art that are hosted inside of it, the Art Museum of Craiova is itself a work of art. So tourists and not only will have a surprise here in terms of things they expect to find.

Hosted by one of the most impressive buildings in Dolj and perhaps even in Oltenia, the "Jean Mihail" Palace, the mansion of one of the richest Romanians of the interwar period, the Art Museum gives unmatched value and beauty to the city center.

The details of the building, carefully restored through a major refurbishment a few years ago, complete what is inside it.

The Art Museum hosts eight of the works of the great Brâncuși, but also important works of big names such as Țuculescu, Grigorescu, Tonitza or Luchian. The collections are divided into "Constantin Brâncuși", "Romanian Art Collection" and "European Art Collection".

An advantage in these times is that you can visit the museum online; there is a virtual tour on its website where you can admire both the works and the impressive "Jean Mihail" Palace.

Shall we tell you that it was built between 1898 and 1907, that it was left as a legacy to the state in its time and that it is among the most beautiful monuments of civil architecture in the city? If you do not take our word for it, you can see with your own eyes.

Also, the “Constantin Brâncuși” International Center, a unique project conceived by the architect Dorin Ștefan and put into practice by the Dolj County Council, which rehabilitated the sumptuous building a few years ago, takes shape in its courtyard. The center includes a 12-meter glass prism, which contains large-scale interpretations of Brâncuși's works "Ovoidul" and "Pasărea Măiastră", thus becoming a tribute to the sculptor who studied in Craiova.

Returning to the interior, on the steps of art history, step into this dream place and do not forget the Hall of Mirrors. It's really a surprise every time, for those who already know it, let alone for those who visit it for the first time.

The Art Museum is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 17:00, and on the first Wednesday of each month, general access is free. Please, as for any tourist objective and not only, respect the rules of physical distance and the guidelines of the guides, so that you have a pleasant experience.

Enjoy your visit here!
