Come see a festival as big as her voice! Maria Tanase, praised again in Craiova

A free spirit, a special one, maybe the most beautiful voice of the Romanian folklore, Maria Tanase has been and remained an artist of international inspiration, who managed to cross the Romanian borders. As a proof, the internationally renowned arts have taken over her songs and carried on her musical legacy.

Her unquestionable connection with Oltenia was that her father was born on these lands, but also her relationship with the great sculptor Constantin Brâncuși. "The gorgeus bird of the Romanian song", is as the historian Nicolae Iorga named her, Maria Tanase remained in the soul of the Oltenian people even after her painful death in 1963. Six years later, in 1969, Craiova already started the festival which now carries her name.

And here we are, in 2019, at the 25th edition of the National Festival-Competition of Interpreters of the Romanian Popular Song "Maria Tănase", celebrating, also, 50 years since its launch.

Dolj County Council, represented by the County Center for the Conservation and Promotion of the Traditional Culture Dolj, announces that this edition will take place between the 11th and 15th of November, at the National Theater "Marin Sorescu". The fans of Romanian folklore have the occasion to listen to the best voices in the country, accompanied by traditional orchestras in Craiova and Chisinau.

The festival halso has a session of communications, open to the public, with the theme "Maria Tanase and the valorisation of Romanian folklore", which will take place on Tuesday, November 12 at 1:00 pm. It will be presented by Prof. PhD. Florea Firan and by the director of the festival, Amelia-Loredana Etegan.

The tickets went on sale on November 1, at the price of 50 lei/ evening, at the National Theater Ticket Agency.
