Writer and playwright Marin Sorescu, celebrated at Craiova’s National Theater
Marin Sorescu, the writer and playwright from Dolj, originally from Bulzești commune, is being celebrated this Friday at the Craiova National Theatre, which proudly bears his name. Thus, the public is invited to take part in the events prepared in honor of the man who was born on February 29, 1936 and influenced both the face of Romanian literature and that of dramaturgy.
An exhibition dedicated to performances based on Sorescu's plays will be revealed during the day on Friday, bringing to the fore visual surprises from "A treia țeapă", "Matca", "Vărul Shakespeare", "Iona", "Paracliserul", "Există nervi", or "Unde mi-e sufletul".
Those curious can also participate in a guided tour of the theatre, registration being mandatory. This can be done by accessing the link
or directly by booking at the Theatre Agency. Before the guided tour, however, the Poesis Theatre invites you to the theatre foyer, where a poetry recital will take place, scheduled for 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
Last but not least, the “Marin Sorescu” National Theatre also invites you to a special screening of the show “Vărul Shakespeare” (TNC production, 2019/2020 season), which will take place in the “I.D. Sîrbu” Hall, starting at 3:30 PM. Access is free based on invitations, available at the Theatre Agency at Str. A.I. Cuza no. 11 (inside the theatre). Details at: 0251.413.677.
Marin Sorescu was and – we dare say – still is and will be, for a long time to come, a prominent figure in contemporary Romanian poetry, his creative universe not being limited to lyrical art. Marin Sorescu wrote children's literature, novels, theater, poems, journalism, but also translations. He won the Romanian Writers' Union award six times, for poetry, theater and literary criticism, and was also awarded the Romanian Academy award (1968, 1977), as well as other renowned international awards.
Don't stay away from the fascinating universe that Sorescu created for us! Discover it and enjoy it, just as he delighted us through his work!

in the world,
I still stand frozen when I think about it, it makes my
