March 21 has become, for several years, a very important day for Oltenians everywhere. By law, in 2017, it was declared Oltenia Day and coincided with the entry into Bucharest of the revolutionary Tudor Vladimirescu on March 21, 1821, the same brave man who started the revolution in the same year in Oltenia.

For this year, the cultural institutions and not only have prepared an extensive program through which they promote the traditions, history and cultural heritage that we, the Oltenians, have from our ancestors.

So, from gastronomy to exhibitions and workshops, all the events will take place in various parts of Craiova, throughout the day of March 21.

In the Historical Center of the municipality, more precisely in the “Frații Buzești” Square, between 18:00 and 18:30 will take place the contemporary dance show “Călușul - from ritual to therapy”, organized by the House of Culture “Traian Demetrescu”.

In the same spot will take place, between 18:30 and 21:00, the show of traditions "Didn’t you hear of an Oltenian", with notable guests from popular music: Angelica Stoican, Niculina Stoican, Constantin Enceanu, Mariana Ionescu Căpitănescu, Vasilica Dinu, Victorița Lăcătușu, Maria Loga, Neta Soare, Zorina Bălan, Ileana Lăceanu, Emilia Dorobanțu, Marian Medregoniu, Delia Barbu, Bogdan Cioranu, Lavinia Bîrsoghe, Lucreția Goagea, Alina Moți Drăghia, Alina Lăcătuu, Alexand Lilea and Maria Ghinea. The show will take place with the accompaniment of the Orchestra of the Professional Artistic Ensemble „Doina Gorjului” - Târgu Jiu, under the baton of conductors Marcel Parnica and Aurel Blondea. The event is organized by Craiova City Hall, through the Folk Ensemble "Maria Tănase", in partnership with Dolj County Council.

At the same time, in the same Square, the people of Craiova will be able to admire the exhibition of old documents and advertisements "Old Craiova", from the Florian Ciobanu collection, also organized by the House of Culture "Traian Demetrescu".

The Craiova Art Museum has prepared a graphic exhibition by Theodor Aman, and the Children's and Youth Theater "Colibri" offers visitors, at the institution's headquarters, several activities, such as the exhibition "Sketches and stories" or the workshop "My first puppet", where children will learn to build puppets from recyclable materials.

At the same time, the Oltenia Museum will host the exhibition “Personalities from Craiova - C.D. Fortunescu ”, which will be opened at 11:00, at the History-Archeology Department.

The Dolj County Center for the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture invites you to the photography exhibition "Dolj in Dishes” and to a gastronomic exhibition under the name "From the Oltenian Pantry”, that will take place starting 13:00 at the Chromatic Galleries.

And at the Dolj County Council, more precisely in the lobby of the institution, there will be a culinary feast like in the Danube Meadow, but also a photographic art exhibition, "Oltenia today, black and white and color". These events are organized by the Cornetti Folk School of Arts and Crafts.

Last but not least, the County Library "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" comes to complete this whole series of events with a lot of activities: Traditional Oltenian dances (Segărceanu Ensemble - Video), Oltenian folk costumes (drawings made by children), Little Oltenians in national costumes (photo exhibition), Anecdotes with and about Oltenians, Book exhibition, Multimedia presentation entitled "Oltenian periodicals published until 1950", Dolj in monographs (virtual exhibition), 5 epigrams about Oltenians, Baptism - traditions in Oltenia (digital presentation), Exhibition "Oltenia in multimedia documents" of audio-video documents - "Marin Sorescu" hall (multimedia presentation), Book exhibition "Oltenia of yesterday and today" (multimedia presentation), Oltenian Folklore Clothing in the collections of the “Alexandru and Aristia Aman” County Library (multimedia presentation), Oltenian cultural identities in the Museum of the Romanian Book and Exile, A special book, correspondence, photographs, manuscripts and unpublished documents exhibition, Presentation films: Nicolae Romanescu and Vintilă Horia, but also a round table and public readings entitled "Oltenian writers".
