#19Februarie. Geniul creator Brâncuși, celebrat la Craiova

On the 149th anniversary of the birth of the great Oltenian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, the entire cultural community in Craiova has planned a multitude of events, intended to pay tribute to the creative spirit of the one who made the stone sing for humanity. Here are the events we will be able to enjoy next week:

The extraordinary concert "Pasărea Măiastră", February 19, "Marin Sorescu" National Theater

The Dolj County Council and the Oltenia Philharmonic are organizing, for culture lovers, "Pasărea Măiastră", an extraordinary show that will take place on Tuesday, February 19, in the Great Hall of the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater. The event brings to the stage soprano Irina Baianț and cellist Adrian Naidin, together with the Oltenia Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Radu Zaharia, directed by Laurențiu Tudor. The concert comes with a program inspired by the repertoire of Maria Tănase, the artist who enchanted Brâncuși: “When I listen to you, whatever you call me, Mărie, I would be able to carve a Master Bird for every song of ours!”. Access to the event will be by invitation, within the limit of available seats. These can be picked up at the box office of the “Marin Sorescu” National Theatre.

- “Brâncuși and the Romanian Avant-garde” – February 19-March 19, “Constantin Brâncuși” Center

We cannot talk about Brâncuși without correlating him with other artists from the Romanian Avant-garde, and therefore the exhibition organized by the Craiova Art Museum, in collaboration with the “Dada” Gallery in Bucharest and the “Constantin Brâncuși” Technological High School in Craiova, sheds light on the sculptor’s relationship with other artists in the context. Curated by Cătălin Davidescu, the exhibition is a form of contextualization of Constantin Brâncuși’s personality that generates, in this way, both the understanding of his creation and of Romanian art from a universal perspective. This perspective of exhibition approach is a premiere in Romania, with the aim of directing the public’s curiosity towards lesser-known aspects of his artistic existence.

- The play "Șurubul de teasc", February 19, 12:00, "Constantin Brâncuși" Center

The action in "The Screw of the Press" takes place in a setting that suggests the place where Constantin Brâncuși lived and created during the longest period he spent in Paris: his studio at L' Impasse Ronsin Street, no. 11, in the Montparnasse neighborhood. It is, in fact, a re-editing of Brâncuși's universe through his own words, in imaginary contexts that also bring together Maria Tănase and Nicolae Titulescu. The sound universe is made up of a selection of original works by composer Gabriel Basarbescu, made by him himself. The resemblance between actor Corneliu Jipa from the "Tony Bulandra" Theater in Târgoviște and Constantin Brâncuși, not only physical but also, perhaps, vocal, is striking. He plays this role alongside actress Oana Marcu in the role of Maria Tănase and actor Laurențiu Stratan in the role of Nicolae Titulescu. Public access is free.

The "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" County Library begins the series of cultural events dedicated to Brâncuși earlier, preparing several exhibitions and workshops.
