Restaurants in Craiova included in the 2019 Gault&Millau Guide


The Gault&Millau Guide is an international gourmet guide, which was first published in France 50 years ago. The idea belonged to Henri Gault and Christian Millau, two journalists passionate about culinary art. The guide has been promoted by famous chefs, including Paul Bocuse, and is currently present in 25 countries on five continents. In Romania, this is the guide’s second edition, featuring twice as many restaurants compared to the 2018 edition.

On June 24th, the Gault&Millau Gala was held, where the 2019 edition of the Romanian restaurant guide was launched. 275 restaurants and POP sites from 15 cities were selected in the 2019 edition of the famous guide. A mixed team of 17 Romanian and international evaluators selected the sites that received points and bonnets with international equivalence and recognition.

Restaurants receive points from 0 to 20, but only those that exceed 10 points are included in the Gault&Millau guide. In addition, bonnets are also awarded: 1 bonnet for the sites with marks between 11 and 12.5, 2 bonnets for those with marks between 13 and 14.5, 3 bonnets for the restaurants with marks between 15 and 16.5, 4 bonnets for those with marks between 17 and 18.5. The maximum score of 5 bonnets is awarded for restaurants with marks between 19 and 19.5. The restaurants scoring between 10 and 11 are not rewarded with bonnets.

In addition to restaurants, the list also includes POP sites, which do not receive points or bonnets. POP is an international concept launched by Gault&Millau, which refers to relaxed sites with quality menus, often specialized and with details that complement the culinary experience – unique design, a special selection of wines or creative cocktails.

For the first time, from Craiova there were four restaurants selected in the 2019 Gault&Millau Guide: Nobel Cuisine, The Manor, Epoca Steak House&Wine and Excelsior.

Also, in the POP section, Craft Pub and Iberico were included on the Frenchmen’s list.

The sites from Craiova have been distinguished by their special menu, the service, the price-quality ratio, but also the atmosphere.
