The Fair of Folk Craftsmen - the 45th edition, in Craiova!
The Fair of Folk Craftsmen, one of the most anticipated events of the fall, returns to Craiova this weekend, with many unique objects, made out of love for tradition and culture!
Organized by the Oltenia Craiova Museum, through the Ethnography Section, with the support of the Dolj County Council and, in partnership with The City Council and City Hall of Craiova, The Children's and Youth Theater Colibri Craiova - Folklore Section and the "Cornetti" Popular School of Arts and Crafts - "Maria Tănase" Dance Ensemble, the event will take place, as usual, in The "William Shakespeare" Square, starting on Friday, October 25, from 12:00.
So, we will have three days full of meaning and joy of traditions, which will bring together, at our home, about 40 popular craftsmen from Dolj, Mehedinți, Vâlcea, Olt, Argeș, Cluj, Harghita, Gorj, Suceava, Sibiu, Bacău and so on. They are ceramists, bone and wood sculptors, iconographers on wood and glass, tanners, knitters, weavers in wool, cotton, borangic, goat hair, rushes, wool, glaziers, creators of folk costumes and interior fabrics, beekeepers, traditional goodies, including homemade sweets or the famous cheeses and smoked products of Sibiu. We will not lack the Oboga (Olt) pottery, Horezu (Vâlcea) pottery, wooden objects (dowry chests, cupboards, chests of drawers, peasant tables and chairs), icons, but also pieces made by peasant craftsmen with a lot of care and skill, which take us back to the past, to traditional Romanian households.
At the same time, visitors will be able to enjoy the presentation of crafts from the Oltenia area that are on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - UNESCO, such as pottery and weaving, as they were included on the UNESCO representative list "Ceramic making techniques de Horezu" (2012), "Traditional Bark Making Techniques" (2016), "The Art of the Pleated Shirt in 2012" (2022).
Visiting hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, from 12:00 p.m., the participating artisans will be awarded prizes. We invite you to celebrate together the skill of their hands, full of love for culture and tradition! #CoolturalCraiova
