Prin realizarea acestei construcții, Primăria Municipiului Craiova a obținut un Centru Multifuncțional modern, prin intermediul căruia urmărește să sprijine mediul de afaceri local și totodată să atragă capital privat. Centrul Multifuncțional Craiova oferă firmelor expozante toate facilitățile necesare, clădirea dispunând de instalații moderne de funcționare, utilaje și echipamente electrice de ultimă generație, valoarea întregii investiții ajungând la suma de 14.275.000 euro. Din punct de vedere arhitectural, construcția Pavilionului Central este o clădire amplă, având un regim S+P+2E, ajungând la înălțimea de 27 m. Forma circulară cu diametrul de 80 m este completată de terasele și rampele înconjurătoare ce au rol de legătură între nivele. Etajele 1 și 2 sunt realizate sub formă de subpantă prin retrageri succesive în raport cu parterul, dând astfel naștere unui atrium central cu diametrul de 40m. Clădirea adăpostește 23 spații destinate birourilor, spații expoziționale, 4 săli de conferință, spații cu destinații diferite pentru buna funcționare a activităților ce se vor desfășura în interiorul clădirii. Circulația vizitatorilor în interiorul clădirii este asigurată de 6 scări și 4 lifturi panoramice, personalul administrativ și clienții folosesc două lifturi cu capacitatea de 8 persoane fiecare, 4 scări secundare și două lifturi de marfă cu o capacitate de 2 tone.

Summer Spell Festival

The building of the University of Craiova, originally built to serve as the Palace of Justice, is an architectural monument of national interest and one of the most representative buildings in the city. Designed in 1890 by the architect Ion Socolescu, the building is an illustration of Neoclassicism in architecture. It is located downtown, on Alexandru Ioan Cuza Street, no. 13. The building was built between 1894 and 1912. From the very beginning, were visible both from the outside and the inside, arechitectural elements borrowed from classicism, such as the triangular pediment and the peristyle of the three-door main entrance, surrounded by four composite columns (with corinthian and ionic elements). The palace was surrounded by a fence with a wrought iron grid fixed on a concrete foundation, with pillars from place to place. Between the building and the fence, on all sides of the building, is a green space. The initial form of the Palace of Justice building was a quadrangle crossed in the middle by a central structure that corresponded to the main entrance, dominated by a classic pediment, from where you can admire a group of statues picturing "The Blindfolded Justice", removed after 1948. After the change of the building's destination, the word "UNIVERSITY", written in capital letters, was placed under its pediment. In 1912 there was a partial inauguration of the building, and another one took place in 1914, when the palace already had 4 levels. Later, the edifice was extended, repaired and modernized successively, reaching 5 and 6 levels. The projects concerning the additions from the interwar period, through which a wing of the building was built, were drawn by the architect Iancu Atanasescu. The plans for the expansion of the building that was completed in the 1970s (1972-1975) were conceived by the architect Petre Falcon. The Palace of Justice was built to serve as the headquarters of various courts of justice in Craiova. Between 1941 and 1944, the palace was occupied by German troops. With the departure of the Germans, the courts of law (the Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeal) returned to this place until 1951. In 1948, the first higher education institution in Craiova ( The Agronomic Institute) has been established here. At the same time, the western side of the palace was occupied by local administrative institutions (The County Seat). Between 1951-1958, the eastern wing of the building sheltered the second higher education institute, the Institute of Machinery and Electrical Devices (The Technical Institute). For a short time, between 1958-1959, the Palace of Justice became the home of the regional, district and city courts, the prosecutor's office and the bar. „OLTENIA” PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA - CRAIOVA, ROMANIA The “Oltenia” Philharmonic from Craiova, a well-known institution in the Romanian musical life, has been founded in 1904 and established in 1947 by a Royal Decree. The present activity is carried out by the Symphony Orchestra (around 80 professional musicians), the Chamber Orchestra, the Academic Choir, as many chamber assemblies, too. The repertoire includes masterpieces of symphonic music, operas, oratorios, requiems, musical jewels, arrangements of famous jazz pieces, covering a large historical period, from Baroque to contemporary. The Symphony Orchestra was conducted by musical personalities, such as Alexandr Dmitriev (Russia), Kurt Adler (USA), Wolfgang Gröhs (Austria), Carmen Moral (Peru), Ivan Marinov (Bulgaria), André Nève (Belgia), Stanislav Wislocki (Polonia), Constantin Silvestri, Mihai Brediceanu, Sergiu Comissiona, Iosif Conta, Erich Bergel, Emil Simon, Horia Andreescu, Camil Marinescu and collaborated with famous soloists, like Pavel Kogan, Igor Oistrakh, Mihail Homitzer, Vladimir Viardo, Boris Gudnikov, Vladimir Orlov, Alexander Slobodianik (Russia), José Manuel Esteban (Spain), Thierry de Brunhoff (France), Weimer Stanley (USA), Marcella Crudeli, Fausto Zadra (Italy), Ion Voicu, Ştefan Ruha, Lola Bobescu, Silvia Marcovici, Radu Aldulescu, Valentin Gheorghiu, Dan Grigore, Nicolae Herlea, Ileana Cotrubaş, Viorica Cortez, Mariana Nicolesco ş. a. Recording houses like: Electrecord, Musical Company - Arad (Romania); V.D.Gallo - Doron, Lausanne (Switzerland); R.Z - Berlin (Germany); Disk Makers, Pennsauken - New Jersey (USA) produced highly appreciated CDs and LPs for “Oltenia” Philharmonic. The symphony orchestra was invited in Italy to perform at the summer concerts together with Katia Ricciarelli - the world’s famous Italian soprano - and to attend to “The International Courses for Young Conductors” from Manfredonia, Alessandria (Italy), Corsica (France), “The International Competitions for Young Soloists” (the finales with the orchestra), in Italy: “G.B. Viotti” (Varallo), “Rodolfo Lipizer” (Gorizia), “Citta di Cantu” (Como); in France: The International Festival “Les Nuits Pianistiques” (Aix-en-Provence); The Opera Festivals in Germany and Italy (Spoleto). The symphonic repertoire of the orchestra covers, among others, the integral symphonies by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner; Symphonies nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6 by Mahler; Symphonies nos. 1, 5, 8, 9 and The Chamber Symphony by Shostakovich; “La Mer”, “Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune” by C. Debussy; “Bolero” by M. The vast repertoire sums up about 1000 of the representative compositions of our choral art like: Renaissance, Baroque, Classic, Romantic and Contemporary. Around 60 professional musicians form the the choir of the “Oltenia” Philharmonic. The activity is extended on two big chapters: a cappella and choral concerts. A cappella concerts include pieces of all epoques and creations, styles of diversity and technical difficulty specific to first class professional ensembles. The vocal-symphonic concerts include masterpieces of universal and Romanian musical literature as: passions, masses, requiems, oratories, cantatas a.o.
