#WingsToTheWorld. Craiova International Airport inaugurates after expansion and modernization works

Craiova International Airport has become the largest regional airport terminal in Romania, after its official inauguration yesterday. After about three years of work for its expansion and modernization, the airport is now fully functional and will serve a significantly larger passenger pool, given its new capacity and the new potential it has for the development of the area, for tourism and interculturality.

With a new passenger terminal, with facilities at the highest standards, its own photovoltaic park and about 1,000,000 square meters that were received for this inauguration, the airport means the culmination of a work that began more than 15 years ago and which, at this moment, has reached an extremely important point. All the stages were presented yesterday, during the inaugural event.

"This airport is not just a modern terminal. It is the most important project of the county administration, the point around which all efforts and many resources have been concentrated. It is the project that demonstrates that, when there is will, vision, perseverance and political support, Oltenia can keep up with the most dynamic regions in Europe", declared the president of Dolj County Council, Cosmin Vasile.

The new terminal has check-in areas and self-check-in counters, security control, separate Schengen/non-Schengen flows, commercial and food-court areas, cafes, tourist offices, car rental services, as well as modern technical spaces, all adapted for increased comfort of passengers with reduced mobility. The new platform and taxiways allow the simultaneous operation of several aircraft and reduce waiting times on the ground. The parking lots and access roads have also been expanded, designed for a much larger passenger flow, as well as for taxi, ridesharing and public transport flows. There are also state-of-the-art security systems, a new perimeter fence, redesigned safety areas, and modern runway lighting.

We see this investment as a starting point for the future development stages of the airport, which include expanding the destination network, increasing flight frequencies, continuously modernizing the infrastructure and consolidating the role of Craiova International Airport as the main air hub of southwestern Romania. We have undertaken a long-term project, designed to meet the traffic needs of the next 20-25 years”, said Craiova International Airport Director Sorin Manda.

Currently, from Craiova International Airport you can fly to the following destinations: Bari, Memmingen, Dortmund, Madrid, London, Birmingham, Brussels, Rome-Fiumicino, Bologna and Bergamo. As for charter flights, those interested can fly to Antalya, Heraklion, Hurghada, Monastir, Larnaca, Palma de Mallorca, Rhodes. At the same time, from October, the Craiova-Istanbul route was also introduced. The exact frequency of flights can be consulted on the official website of the airport, and packages can be purchased directly from partner agencies, but also from all travel agencies in Oltenia.

We are happy to see this dream come true for an entire region! #CraiovaWingsToTheWorld
