Craiova celebrates Oltenia Day. Read the full program!

March 21, proclaimed by law as Oltenia Day, marks the moment when Tudor Vladimirescu entered Bucharest, during the 1821 Revolution. Years later, we celebrate here, at home, this holiday that affirms our identity, culture and local charm.

Here are the events prepared for this period, which will start tomorrow, March 19. 
Thursday, March 19

March 19-22 - Craiova City Hall – str. A.I. Cuza no. 7
10:00 – 19:00 - Contemporary art exhibition “SIGNS and other SIGNS” is organized by the Union of Visual Artists of Romania – Craiova branch, and is an exhibition with free admission, which will remain open until April 19.

March 19-22 - Foyer of the National Theatre “Marin Sorescu”
11:00 – 18:00 - Exhibition of advertisements "Merchants and Shops of Craiova of the Past. 1870 - 1989" - Florin Ciobanu personal collection; Homage digital art exhibition - Art Bees Gallery Association; Holographic exhibition “Oltenia in the Mirror” - “Colibri” Children and Youth Theatre. Access is free and the exhibitions can be visited until April 14, according to the performance schedule of the National Theatre Marin Sorescu.

March 19-22 - “William Shakespeare” Square
10:00 – 21:00 – Oltenian tradition fair - Tales of yesterday and today, organized by the Carousel Project Association.

March 19-22 - Museum of the Book and Romanian Exile
09:00– 17:00 - Exhibition of documents, photographs and materials with personalities from Oltenia, from the museum's collections, open until May 5.

March 19-22 – „Alexandru and Aristia Aman” County Library
09.00 – 17:00 - Exhibitions of books and documents about the history, traditions, folk costumes and cultural heritage of Oltenia, also open until May 5.
Friday, March 20

Museum of Oltenia – History-Archaeology Section - 12:00
Artistic event dedicated to Oltenia Day and the Revolution of 1821, organized by the Oltenia Museum and the National Military College "Tudor Vladimirescu" Craiova.

„Alexandru and Aristia Aman” County Library - 09.00 – 17.00
Exhibition of graphics and drawings made by students of the "Marin Sorescu" High School of Arts on the theme of Oltenia Day. The exhibition can be visited between March 20 and 27.

Casa Băniei - 13.00
- Oltenia Sitting: interactive workshops for children with traditional techniques of sewing, embroidery, egg painting, pottery and making objects from wood and straw;
- Photographic exhibition "Children discover Oltenia";
- Tradition on the podium - Mini-fashion show with traditional Oltenia costumes, staged by students of the modeling class, organized by the Dolj County Center for Culture and Art, the "Cornetti" Popular School of Arts and Crafts and the Oltenia Museum.

Cromatic Galleries - 15:00
Exhibition of authentic folk costumes, organized by the Dolj County Center for Culture and Art - Section for the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture Dolj.

Craiova Art Museum - 17:00
Opening of the exhibition of the National College "Carol I" Craiova - 200 years of existence, organized by the Craiova Art Museum and the National College "Carol I"

Oltenia Craiova Philharmonic - 19:00
Cinestezia Symphonic - cinematic pop symphonic concert, with soloist and composer Leyah, Conductor Jin Wang and the Symphonic Orchestra and Academic Chorus of the Oltenia Craiova Philharmonic.
Saturday, March 21

„Constantin Brancusi” Centre - 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Guided tour “The Traces Left by Brancusi in Craiova”, an excursion into Brancusi’s Craiova, by Monumentalist. The starting location is the „Constantin Brancusi” Center (Art Museum), and registration is at dragos@baumpixel.com.

„Marin Sorescu” National Theatre – Foyer - 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Interactive workshops: Ten creative workshops, organized by the Carousel Project Association supported by local artists, invite Craiova residents to relive the refinement of Interwar Oltenia.

„Mihai Viteazul” Square - 11:00 – 11:30
Oltenia Folk Costume Parade - Children's folk ensembles from Oltenia participate, on the route: "Marin Sorescu" National Theater - A.I. Cuza Street - "Mihai Viteazul" Square - Unirii - Lipscani - "Frații Buzești" Square - "Marin Sorescu" National Theater. Organizer: Dolj County Center for Culture and Art - "Maria Tănase" Folk Dance Ensemble Section.

"Marin Sorescu" National Theatre Esplanade - 11:30 – 14:00
Oltenia Folk Costume Festival and Oltenia Folk Costume Parade, held under the name "M-a făcut mama Oltean - Hai la joc de sărbătoare", organized by the Dolj County Center for Culture and Art - "Maria Tănase" Folk Dance Ensemble Section.

Foyer of the National Theatre "Marin Sorescu" - 15:00 – 18:00
Open Mic Festival – a project dedicated to young artists from Oltenia. Moments of poetry, flute recital, classical music, folklore moment and light music. Guests: Alesia Elena Vînturici, Familia Suchici, Taraful de la Rădinești and many others. Event organized by the People Connect Concept Association, Harmonies School and CFR Craiova High School.

„Marin Sorescu” National Theatre - 19:00
CRAIOVA INTERBELICĂ Show – a journey into the vibrant atmosphere of the interwar period in the Băniei Fortress, to remind us of the charm of Craiova of old. Participating artists are Mariana Ionescu Căpitănescu, Constantin Enceanu, Marius Măgureanu, Lavinia Bîrsoghe, Liliana Popa, Aneta Şişu, Manuela Motocu, Cristian Bănăţeanu, Liviu Dică and actress Oana Stancu. The event is organized by the Children and Youth Theatre "Colibri" and the Dolj County Centre for Culture and Art
