The Zoo in Craiova, located in Romanescu Park, was inaugurated in 1906 and is one of the oldest in the country. At first it was just a small zoological attraction, sheltering a few animals from the local fauna: foxes, badgers, deer.
There were only a couple of animal enclosures around the Forester House, and on the edge of the main alley beside the lake there were several cages that housed foxes and badgers.
According to the inventory of species and specimens, at present, there are 39 species at the Zoo, represented by 244 birds and animals.
