Reservation of Wild Peony from Pleniţa
Protected area / Natural attraction
Famous for the Wild Peony Nature Reserve, Poiana Bujorului in the Pleniţa Forest, is located 59 km from Craiova, on the border with Mehedinţi County, in a plain area with altitudes of up to 200 meters, with a temperate climate and with average values.
The Reserve of the wild peony, unique in Romania's landscape, is set on an area of about 50 ha, and during the flowering period is a real fever.
The forest shelters a variety of wild peony, called Paeonia Peregrina.
Pliny has in ancient times made a detailed description of the peony, which he said could treat about 20 diseases.
Every year, in May, the traditional peony celebration is held at Pleniţa. A large red peony is welcoming the locals but also the guests from Gorj, Olt and Mehedinti.
